Missing threads & reduced post counts

While I was doing some some admin work, a few threads were corrupted and had to be deleted.

These are the affected threads .. there may be more...

• The Song Chain

You're welcome to restart the threads anew...

Some of you may have noticed reduced post counts as a result of this... this is why... so please... don't give the staff any grief over the matter... I was the one responsible.

Also, while I was at it, any posts made in the Off Topic forums, including the Bar & Grill, will no longer count towards a users post count... (You don't add your bar time to your hourly work sheet to increase your honorarium do you???... same principle) In the future, this will allow us to prune such social threads without affecting your FTA post counts.

Well that's one way to clean out the server! Hahaha I'm sure there's been a significant space reduction. Lol I wouldn't worry about any repercussions.

AFA post count, anyone who has lost more than I have today (over7,000) is welcome to complain, lol.

I had originally considered suggesting to the site owner when the B & G was started, to leave the post counter off for off-topic threads, so r2 simply did some long needed catch-up work.

I am just grateful I didn't lose my "Tester" status. Going back to "Novice" would have put me over the edge and I'm walking a fine line in all walks of my life to begin with

I am a member at a few FTA sites and I must say that the view elsewhere compared to that which is here, is entirely different. The moderators here do a great job at keeping things in perspective, respectful and on-topic. And if indirect or direct housekeeping occurs every once in awhile, at the very least, it is refreshing. No complaints here....

My sentiments exactly. I have no problem with reduced post counts either. I respect Swaffml and Smartblonde for fixing their counts. What matters is the content of the post, not the number of posts you have.

If I remember correctly before Fifties created the B & G, the post count was used for a very functional purpose -- in order to use the Buy & Sell section a reasonable high post count was required in order to sell something / equipment you don't need anymore to the members. The post count kept out the "fly by night" scammers that would hit every site. These people would often try to inflate their counts often in a not helpful or contributing fashion. Those were easy to spot and the mods would quickly nuke the selling posts and spare some member from possibly being scammed. With the B & G, that broke this process.

So once again, with the B & G as well as a few other sections not contributing to the post counts the site will operate much better. A members worth is not measured by their post count but how they contribute and try to be helpful! Newbies is fortunate to have many many valuable members and we hope to attract many more with the same spirit.

posts count really dont mean anything , remember that the best person to help with your porblem could only have 10 post and the answers you need. i need to go back and fix my sig and put back on "dont let the post count fool you "

It's an option in the admin panel under Forum Manager.
