OTTAWA CANADA — Telesat said Wednesday it would procure a new broadcast satellite from Space Systems/Loral for use throughout its lifetime by BCE Inc.'s Bell TV (TSX:BCE).
Telesat said the Nimiq 6 satellite will help Bell TV enhance its ability to deliver high-definition television and other video services across the country.

House OKs bill to continue rural satellite-TV service. |

Satellite-television companies Dish Network Corp. and DirecTV Group Inc. would be able to continue offering big-city network stations to some rural subscribers under a bill passed by the U.S. House on Thursday.
It passed 394-11. The Senate hasn't passed its version.
Without congressional action, about 1 million households would lose access to the distant programming at year's end, when a national license expires, said Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas.

For the past few years there has been an ongoing debate between satellite companies on who has more HD channels. Dish likes counting regional sports networks which are not true 24 hour HD channels, instead Dish only carries select games from these RSN’s in HD. DirecTV on the other hand counts the number of HD pay per view channels they offer. Using creative math both companies can call themselves the HD leaders.
